The world's most popular artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot is infected with Russian disinformation, according to the newest one study It was released on Thursday.
A survey conducted by News Monitoring Service NewsGuard found that the term “Pravda,” a Russian word for “truth” called “Pravda,” spreads falsehoods on the Internet, including results spelled to AI chatbots and users.
“The flood of search results and web crawlers with Pro Kremlin falsehoods have caused the network to distort language models from processing large models and presenting news and information,” News Guard said in a lengthy report, “A mass of Russian propaganda in 2024 – 3,600,000 articles – is now inked on false systems inked on the West AI system.

NewsGuard said it has tested 10 prominent AI chatbots, including Openai's ChatGPT-4o, Microsoft's Copilot, Google's Gemini, and more. From April 2022 to last month, we sampled 15 false stories driven by a network of 150 “Pro Kremlin Pravda Websites.”
The News Rating Service said its findings confirmed the American Sunlight Project's February 2025. Reportwhich warned that Pravda was set up to “overflow large language models with Prokremlin content.”
“Long-term political, social and technical risks related to potential LLMs [large-language models] Grooming within this network is high. The American Sunlight Project wrote in a 22-page report released on February 26th, and the larger the set of Pro-Russia stories, the more likely it will be integrated into LLM.
Pravda will not cancel original content. The news guard said content from government agencies, Prokremlin influencers and Russian national media has consolidated “through a wide range of seemingly independent websites” and “through a wide set,” adding that Pravda “has been spreading a total of 207 false claims, serving as a central hub for the laundry of the Disformation.”
Pravda was founded in April 2022, a few weeks after the February 2022 invasion of Ukraine. The Disformation Network was first discovered last February by Viginum, a French government agency that tracks foreign networks that seriously affect information ecosystems.
According to NewsGuard, Pravda has targeted 49 countries in several languages across 150 domains since its launch in 2022.
“In total, 56 out of 450 chatbot-generated responses contained direct links to stories that spread false claims published by the website's Pravda network,” NewsGuard said.
“Collectively, the chatbot cited 92 different articles from networks containing distribution. The two models refer to 27 Pravda articles each from domains of the network, including Denmark.news-pravda.com, trump.news-pravda.com, and Nato.news-pravda.com.”
