Joe Gebbia Shifts Support to Trump Over Border Concerns
Joe Gebbia, the co-founder of Airbnb, recently announced that he has switched his political allegiance from the Democrats to President Trump, primarily influenced by what he describes as an escalating border crisis.
Once a lifelong Democrat, Gebbia began leaning toward the Republican Party in 2021, citing frustrations with immigration enforcement issues during Joe Biden’s presidency.
“I remember thinking, ‘Wow, this is really something,'” Gebbia said in a podcast hosted by Katy Miller.
He expressed disbelief at the current state of affairs. “This is not a drill. This is a genuine issue,” he emphasized, arguing for the enforcement of laws relating to immigration and border control.
After reaching out to Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, to discuss concerns, Gebbia mentioned that he focused on this area without exploring other political issues extensively.
As he delved deeper into various topics, he indicated a growing discomfort with supporting a party that, in his view, favored open borders that could invite crime and danger. “That’s not something I can support,” he remarked.
Gebbia’s relationships with figures like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Elon Musk have also played a role in his ideological shift toward Trump. “I’ve been traveling a lot,” he noted, reflecting on how this gradual transformation has occurred.
“I definitely support Bobby Kennedy and appreciate his contributions,” he added, acknowledging his ongoing connections within the political landscape.
Initially, Gebbia volunteered in February to help Musk streamline government operations and improve efficiency for government workers. Subsequently, he was appointed by Trump last month as the chief design officer for a new national design studio aimed at revamping federal websites.
