Alina Haba, the former personal attorney for the president, has stepped down from her role at the New Jersey State Attorney’s Office following a court decision that deemed her appointment improper.
US Attorney Pam Bondi expressed support for Haba but criticized her, accusing her of “politicizing the judge,” which allegedly created a challenging environment for both the judge and Haba.
Haba, in a bold statement, claimed that judges have turned into “weapons of the politicized left,” attributing her resignation to their actions.
She noted, “For months, these judges stopped holding trials and sentencing, allowing violent offenders to roam free. They care more about opposing President Trump than the welfare of the people they serve.” Haba emphasized her loyalty is to the country, not to politics or her position.
A panel from the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Haba should not hold her position. She had been sworn in as a deputy U.S. attorney for New Jersey at the end of March.
In her resignation, Haba stated, “To safeguard the stability and integrity of the office I cherish, I have chosen to resign.” However, she insisted that this choice does not compromise the Department of Justice or her commitment to it. She plans to continue as Senior Counsel to the Attorney General while the court’s decision is reviewed.
Bondi indicated that the Justice Department would pursue a reassessment of the ruling and would reinstate Haba if it were overturned.
Haba ended her statement reiterating a popular sentiment: “You can take a girl out of New Jersey, but you can’t take New Jersey out of the girl.”
Additionally, Bondi mentioned an incident where a man had damaged property in Haba’s office while trying to confront her, highlighting the growing trend of threats against federal employees.
Bondi condemned any violence or intimidation toward public officials, noting that this has become increasingly concerning nationally.
