Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) said on MSNBC’s “All In” on Wednesday that Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito is “unfit for office” and should recuse himself from a case involving former President Donald Trump while discussing reports about the “Appeal to Heaven” flag, which has an upside-down American flag flying at his residence.
Anchor Chris Hayes said, “I’ve seen some comments about the upside-down flag. What do you think about this latest article about another right-wing flag flying over another Alito’s house? ”
“I wish I could say I was surprised, but I’m not, because this flag is a political statement, and let me be clear. This is part of a pattern. This political statement is, in effect, an endorsement of Donald Trump and the religious sect of the Stop the Steal movement and their theological vision of what America should be and how it should be governed,” Blumenthal said. “I don’t have a problem with Speaker Johnson flying the flag outside his office. He’s a politician. Supreme Court justices should be above reproach and above politics.”
He added: “It is truly sad and shocking to say that it is rapidly becoming clear that Judge Alito is unfit to serve on the United States Supreme Court. At the very least, the court that will decide whether Mr. Trump will be held accountable is He must recuse himself from these lawsuits.”
