On a tragic Sunday morning in Louisiana, seven young children, all seen smiling with their father, lost their lives at the hands of that same father, Shamar Elkins, aged 31. This heartbreaking event took place just two weeks after a photo was captured on Easter Sunday, showcasing a moment of family joy.

The victims included Jayla Elkins, just 3 years old; Layla Pugh, 7; Kedarion Snow, 6; Kayla Pugh, also 6; Sheila Elkins, 5; Sariah Snow, 11; and Braylon Snow, 5. In a shocking turn of events, Elkins’ tragic actions also resulted in the death of 10-year-old Markedon Pugh, the son of his girlfriend’s sister.

Markedon’s father, Troy Brown, expressed his grief in a touching Facebook post, saying, “Son, may God rest your soul. Dad will be sorely missed.” He reflected on his love for Markedon and shared heartfelt memories, including photos.

In his tribute, Brown wrote, “Please give a hug to the grandmas for us. It hurts so much. Please pray for me and Kiosha Pugh for the loss of our only son and nieces and nephews. God, give us strength.”

According to police reports, Elkins allegedly threatened his estranged wife, Shanequa Pugh, who is the mother of four of the slain children. He shot her multiple times, leaving her in critical condition. Another victim, Christina Snow, Elkins’ girlfriend and the mother of Kedarion, was also seriously injured in the incident.

After the chaos unfolded, Elkins fled the scene, leading police on a pursuit in a stolen red Kia Sportage. The standoff ended with Elkins being shot, though it remains unclear whether it was self-inflicted or by law enforcement.
