Shooting Incident at Utah University
Utah Governor Spencer Cox has disclosed that Tyler Robinson, the person accused of killing political activist Charlie Kirk, was living with a transgender partner.
Kirk was shot and killed on September 10, 2025, during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University. Robinson allegedly used a long-range bolt-action rifle during the incident.
In several interviews on Sunday, Cox confirmed that Robinson’s partner is transgender and mentioned that Robinson was “deeply indoctrinated in leftist ideology.”
Cox indicated that Robinson had shared his views with his family, stating, “There were conversations that were discussed specifically about Charlie Kirk.”
“That information comes from the people around him — his family members and friends,” Cox added.
The governor also confirmed that Robinson’s partner is cooperating with law enforcement. “The roommate was a romantic partner, a male transitioning to female,” he stated. “This partner has been incredibly cooperative and had no idea that this was happening.”
Items found at the crime scene, including the weapon and ammunition, were inscribed with anti-fascist messages, suggesting Robinson’s strong leftist beliefs.
Cox mentioned a conversation with President Donald Trump about the shooting, noting the president’s frustration over the incident. “It was a long conversation where we talked about lots of things, but it was very sobering,” he said. “[Trump] knows better than anyone as someone who literally was injured by a bullet.”
Robinson and his partner lived in an apartment close to his parents in St. George, Utah, which is about four hours from the university. Senior FBI officials have stated that Robinson’s partner has been “extremely cooperative” and reportedly was unaware of the alleged plans for the assassination.
The FBI has also taken items from their apartment for further investigation, including computers. An FBI spokesperson mentioned that they are currently exploring a high volume of tips, ensuring every association linked to the case is scrutinized.
While the FBI has not made any statements regarding potential charges against Robinson’s partner, they clarified that this individual is not currently considered criminally involved in Kirk’s death.
