Forget ICE, Free Palestine: Platner Officially Exits Primary

Graham Platner: 'Benjamin Netanyahu Is an Escaped Criminal'

Graham Platner Withdraws from Maine Senate Primary

Graham Platner, amidst significant controversy, has officially stepped back from the Maine Senate primary. In a striking statement, he declared, “Fuck ICE” and “Free Palestine,” which has created a notable vacancy as Democrats swiftly search for a replacement.

His formal withdrawal began with, “I write to formally withdraw my candidacy for the United States Senate.”

Platner expressed that nominating his chosen candidate for the Democratic primary was a vote for “Medicare for All, an end to billionaire election buying, and an end to taxpayer genocide and forever wars.”

In a subsequent comment, he insisted that voters were looking for “time and dignity, strong unions and jobs that support their families, the hope of buying a home, and the opportunity to retire gracefully.” He suggested that Americans, in general, are “desperate for change.”

“People are eager for change. They’re calling for a repair of this broken system and pushing forward the American experiment. Over the last 11 months, countless Mainers have passionately contributed their time and skills to this movement, making our vision a reality,” he added.

He concluded his message with a strong emphasis on community: “And by filing this letter today, we aim to further the movement we have built together and the future we believe in.” He reiterated, “Fuck ICE. Free Palestine. Lift up your hearts.”

His resignation follows a host of longstanding allegations, which, despite facing scrutiny, saw continued support from high-ranking Democrats. These scandals included past remarks that have raised eyebrows, such as Nazi tattoos and inappropriate behavior, along with offensive comments directed at war veterans.

However, the final straw seems to have been an accusation from a woman alleging he broke into her home and raped her—a claim he vehemently denies. Ultimately, this led to significant Democratic figures pulling their support and urging his withdrawal from the race.

The Maine Democratic Party has announced that they are now in the process of selecting a new candidate to challenge incumbent Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine).

Maine Democratic Party Executive Director Devon Murphy Anderson, addressing the situation late at night via video, clarified that the Senate nomination process is now officially open. She mentioned, “Candidates can now begin engaging with the Democratic Party in earnest by filing a statement of intent and collecting signatures.” She reassured that they are committed to transparency in this process.

Anderson emphasized their dedication to a fair, inclusive selection process for new U.S. Senate candidates, promising not to leave until it is firmly in the hands of the constituents.
