Ivanna Ortiz is facing serious allegations after allegedly firing shots into Rhianna’s pricey Los Angeles home and a trailer parked outside, according to prosecutors.
“This individual had the intention to kill Rhianna. Everyone else? Just collateral damage,” said Deputy District Attorney Alexander Bott to reporters outside a downtown courtroom following the unsealing of Ortiz’s grand jury indictment.
Her indictment includes 10 elevated charges, shifting from assault with a semi-automatic weapon to assault with an assault weapon.
The 36-year-old is said to have acquired the assault weapon used in the incident from Florida, where it was registered, according to Bott.
Ortiz appeared before the court dressed in a yellow jumpsuit, her hands restrained, and with long blond bangs framing her face. She pleaded not guilty to all charges through her attorney.
Her bail has been set at $2.65 million, and she is scheduled to return to court on October 29, responding with a “yes” when asked if she accepted that date.
The unsealing of the indictment comes after a four-month delay, during which a judge expressed concerns regarding Ortiz’s mental competency.
On March 8, Ortiz allegedly used a high-powered rifle to fire shots at Rhianna’s residence from her Tesla, hitting not just the house but also an Airstream trailer in the driveway, where Rhianna and her husband, A$AP Rocky, were present, according to LA County District Attorney Nathan Hochman.
At that time, the couple’s three young children—ages 4, 3, and 1—were inside the main house with Rhianna’s mother.
Police reported that Ortiz, the only person in her vehicle, fled the scene but was apprehended about three miles away during a traffic stop in Sherman Oaks.
An assault-style rifle linked to the crime was later recovered from her vehicle, officials stated.
According to prosecutor Alexander Bott, Ortiz was found with ammunition and a disguise, had allegedly planned the crime, and fired a total of 20 rounds towards the house while children were present, rattling the upscale neighborhood known for its celebrity residents and tight security. Following the incident, Rihanna and her family quickly evacuated the mansion, boarding a private jet to leave LA.
In a series of erratic videos, Ortiz appeared to provide strange justifications for her actions, claiming Rhianna was “stealing” from her, exhibiting jealousy, and labeling her a “witch” with a “devil’s face.”
Ortiz faces multiple charges, including attempted murder with special allegations, 10 counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm (also with special allegations), and three counts of shooting into an inhabited building or vehicle. If convicted on all counts, she could potentially face life in prison, as outlined by Hochman.
