Laila Sayalas, a junior at Apalachee High School, He told CNN She was reportedly sitting next to the alleged shooter, 14-year-old Colt Gray, moments before Wednesday's massacre.
The 16-year-old student said Gray left the classroom at the start of his morning Algebra I class.
Sayalath said the suspected shooter knocked on the door to get back inside because it locked automatically.
A girl tried to open the door for him, but quickly jumped back when she saw that Gray was armed.
“I guess he realized we weren't going to let him in,” Laierra told CNN, “and the door to the classroom next to mine was open, so I guess he started shooting in the classroom.”
A third-grader said students heard gunfire during algebra class and hid behind their desks, describing the terrifying experience as “one story after another.”
“When we heard the noise, most of us were on the floor, crawling around or on top of each other,” she said.
