Almost 200K Jeep hybrids recalled over fire risk

Nearly 200,000 Jeep plug-in hybrid vehicles will be recalled due to fire hazards, according to a Monday press release from manufacturer Stellantis.

“Our internal review of customer data led to an internal investigation and the discovery of 13 fires,” Stellantis said. stated in the release. “All vehicles were parked and turned off.”

Vehicles affected by the recall include 2020-2024 Jeep Wrangler 4XE and 2022-2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4XE SUVs, according to the release. Stellantis added that about 5% of affected vehicles may be defective.

“The risk to the vehicle is reduced when the battery's charge level is depleted,” the release states. Therefore, owners are advised to refrain from charging. Out of an abundance of caution, the company is advising owners of these vehicles to park away from buildings and other vehicles until a remedy is available. ”

Stellantis' latest recall follows another recall last month for about 1.5 million Ram pickup trucks, in which the company cited a software issue affecting the electronic stability control system.

Stellantis said Monday that “relief is imminent” and that people affected by the new recall will be notified “once a service appointment is scheduled.”
