Almost 80% of Swing State Voters Support Deporting Criminals Who Are in the Country Illegally

Poll Shows Strong Support for Deporting Criminal Illegal Aliens

A recent poll indicates that nearly 80% of voters in key battleground states are in favor of deporting illegal immigrants who have been convicted of crimes. This survey was conducted by Public Opinion Strategies, which queried 1,100 voters across various swing states, including Arizona, Georgia, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Texas, and Wisconsin.

The findings reveal significant backing for President Trump’s immigration policies, with 79% of respondents believing that undocumented immigrants who commit crimes should be removed from the country. In contrast, only 13% think these individuals should be allowed to stay.

According to Gene Ulm, a partner at the polling firm, the results reflect a prevailing consensus among voters. In fact, he noted in the survey memo that no demographic group surveyed supports allowing criminal illegal immigrants to remain in the U.S.

The survey further highlighted that voters prioritize immigration enforcement against human traffickers (26%) and public safety threats or criminal organizations (23%). Comparatively, only 7% highlighted drug smugglers, 6% pointed to employers hiring undocumented workers, and mere 1% mentioned recent border crossers or visa overstayers. Interestingly, about 34% of those surveyed felt that all these issues should be considered a top enforcement priority.

This poll aligns with other surveys that show broad support for Trump’s immigration policies. For instance, a Harvard CAPS and Harris Poll conducted earlier this year found that 73% of registered voters support deporting violent immigrants, and 52% favor the deportation of all illegal immigrants. This latter figure includes 49% of political independents, which suggests a wider acceptance among varying voter segments.

However, it’s worth noting that the same Harvard Harris poll also revealed a growing concern regarding ICE’s methods. It pointed out that 58% of respondents felt that ICE was using excessive force in Minneapolis, and 57% believed that the agency was overstepping its bounds there.

A Siena College opinion poll highlighted more mixed feelings about deportation. While around 50% of those surveyed supported the idea of deporting undocumented individuals, a lesser 36% approved of how ICE conducts its operations.

Additionally, a market poll released recently indicated that 56% of American adults are in support of deporting illegal aliens, with 44% opposing the idea. This suggests a significant divide in public opinion overall.

The Public Opinion Strategies poll was conducted from January 27 to February 1 and carries a margin of error of 2.95 percentage points.
