When he arrived in the bottom of the ninth inning of Game 3 of the National League Wild Card Series, the spotlight he had dreamed of since childhood was on him. The scenario was this. With one out and two runners on base, New York's offense was ineffective all night, losing 2-0 and in danger of being eliminated from the postseason. Yes, this is what kids dream about in their backyards, and Alonso said in his post-match interview that he did the same.
And he lived it up when the first baseman hit a three-run home run to give his “Amazing” Mets a completely clutch 3-2 lead. New York continued to win, but 4-2in Thursday night's contest to both save the campaign and advance to the NLDS against the Philadelphia Phillies.
