American Airlines passenger allegedly attacked flight attendant, swallowed rosary beads

The Florida-bound flight had to head to Georgia Monday evening after passengers attacked two flight attendants.

Delange Augustine, 31, is facing charges of interfering with a flight crew member, according to an affidavit in support of criminal charges filed in federal court in Georgia. He and his sister were on an American Eagle Flight 4162 run by envoys, from Savannah to Miami, which has “approximately eight passengers and five crew members.”

Less than a minute after takeoff, flight attendants believed Augustine was in a medical emergency as he was paying attention to “stomping, screaming and shaking,” according to court filings. As Augustine approached, he was said to have “turned back at his seat, lifted his legs and kicked the 'flight attendant' into the chest.”

When the pilot heard what was going on from the closed cockpit, the decision was made to return the flight to the Savannah.

Augustine then punched the seat of the passenger in front of him. Augustine's “kicks kept breaking down the chair,” according to the affidavit.

A special FBI agent under investigation said Augustine had temporarily settled down until the flight had landed and led him to the gate.

All passengers were asked to remain seated, but Augustine is said to have attacked the front of the plane while hugging her sister. Upon reaching the plane's galley, he is said to have threw the “haymaker” to “several “haymakers.”

Three passengers then dragged Augustine and his sister to the ground, identified as Mezina Augustine, to the ground, until airport police were able to conquer him.

Medjina Augustin told FBI special agents that she and her brothers will go to Haiti “to escape from religious attacks of spiritual nature.”

According to the affidavit, she said “evil comes out in the darkness,” and she “had never experienced the darkness as much as the plane that night.” As a result, she said, “[s]The affidavit states, “I wasn't surprised that her brother hurt someone because he hurt evil. “Satan's pupil followed the plane and he recalls the way that Augustines told her to close the plane's eyes.

The filing says Augustine also swallowed Rosary Beads and was taken to the hospital for an assessment before being sent to the Chatham County Detention Center. The affidavit's sister said Augustine's sister had engulfed the beads “as they are weapons of spiritual war strength,” adding that she “does not suffer from medical or mental health issues or disabilities.”
