The International Olympic Committee has decided to return the bronze medal that American gymnast Jordan Chiles won in the floor exercise at the Paris Olympics due to improper scoring.
The IOC announced it would reallocate the bronze medal to Romania’s Ana Barbos after the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) said it would respect the decision of the Centre for Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on the matter.

The CAS ruled that U.S. coach Cecil Lundy’s protest had been made outside the one-minute grace period and therefore invalidated Chiles’ score. Chiles’ score was changed by 0.1 points, giving her third place and earning the bronze medal, beating Barbos.
The CAS said it would be in contact with the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee about returning the medals.
USA Gymnastics said it was shocked by the CAS ruling.

“We believe that the investigation into the difficulty of Jordan-Childs’ floor exercise was conducted in good faith and in accordance with FIG rules designed to ensure accurate scoring,” the organization wrote.
Childs said he was heartbroken by the CAS decision and planned to stay off social media. With his score removed, Childs’ new score dropped him to fifth place.
She received support from her teammates on social media.
“Sending lots of love to Jordan,” Simone Biles wrote on Instagram. “Stay strong ‘Olympic Champion’, we love you.”
