American tourists felt ‘nudge’ before shark attack at popular Bahamas resort

Two American tourists He spoke out after being attacked by a shark for hours on his vacation at a popular beach resort in the Bahamas last weekend.

The attack occurred when a 24- and 20-year-old woman was swimming in the waters of Bimini Bay at about 6:30pm on February 7th. Royal Bahamas Police.

“I got my head and started praying that God would not take my life and that I would live,” one woman told NBC's “Today.”

The two friends were enjoying their dream vacation as they plunged from their boat into the beautiful seas of the Bahamas.

“I felt something to tweak my feet,” the 20-year-old said, “Today.” “About two minutes later, we were by the ladder and I felt my leg being pulled. I quickly learned that I had been bitten by a shark.”

Tourists were attacked by what appeared to be bull sharks, and one woman was seriously injured.

Family and friends quickly pulled the pair safely, wrapped tourniquets around one woman's feet and raced for help.

“They yelled at me that the top of my legs were shredded. They didn't notice until I looked down,” the 24-year-old said in an interview.

First responders transported the pair to the clinic for treatment before being airlifted to a hospital on New Providence Island, about 185 miles from the Miami coast.

The woman told the outlet that the injury was stable and she was taken to Orlando, Florida. Hospital, 20-year-old victim undergoes his third surgery.

The incident remains under investigation, and both women are expected to recover in full.

Despite the attack, research suggests that global shark bites are actually less common.

At least two additional Americans have been bitten by sharks while in the Bahamas, with one death in more than a year.

The newlyweds from Massachusetts were killed off the coast of New Providence Island in December 2023. Lauren Erikson Vanwart, 44, was paddleboarding within a mile of the land when he was attacked and killed.
