The son of infamous “Long Island Lolita,” Amy Fisher, is facing charges for allegedly killing her cat, potentially by placing it in a microwave. This troubling news comes from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.
Brett Anthony Berella, aged 25, alongside his girlfriend Jennifer Armenti, 36, has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty. The cat, named Reaper, was discovered dead in their apartment in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, back in December 2024.
A forensic autopsy by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals revealed the cat experienced severe pain before ultimately dying from “involuntary heat exposure.” This could have resulted from microwave radiation, immersion in boiling water, or exposure to hot steam.
Berella is the eldest child of Fisher and her ex-husband, former NYPD officer Luis Berera. He has a criminal history that includes robbery and drug offenses, and he was already incarcerated on other charges at the time of these new allegations.
A friend of the couple reported the death of the cat to authorities on December 15, 2024, according to an arrest affidavit.
Armenti initially claimed she found the cat on the bathroom floor and suspected it had ingested detergent. However, animal care workers later discovered the pet dead in a significant pool of blood, placed in a laundry basket in the backyard.
Following a thorough investigation, Armenti was arrested by Miramar police recently, and Berella was indicted earlier this month.
Berella’s criminal past dates back seven years to when he was 18, featuring multiple drug and robbery charges.
Fisher’s background is quite well-known. She gained notoriety in 1992 after shooting Mary Jo Buttafuoco, the wife of her boyfriend, when she was just 17. Though Buttafuoco survived the attack, she suffered lasting injuries, and Fisher served seven years in prison before her release in 1999.
Fisher later married Luis Berera and moved to Florida, but returned to Long Island in 2017, citing that her children were “ostracized” by their peers. She expressed concerns about her children having no friends and the stigma tied to her past.
“My situation has become quite difficult. My eldest son even received advice from the school psychologist to drop out and get his GED,” Fisher shared.
Currently, at 51, Fisher has transitioned into a webcam career. Her ex-husband, Louis Berera, commented on her choices in 2017, admitting he disapproves but feels powerless to change the situation.
