The adult son of Amy Fisher, often referred to as the “Long Island Lolita,” along with his girlfriend, is facing serious charges of animal cruelty after the troubling death of their pet cat, Reaper. This comes from documents filed in a Florida court.
Brett Anthony Berera, aged 25, and Jennifer Armenti, 36, are being prosecuted for aggravated animal cruelty. Investigators concluded that Reaper’s death was likely due to “involuntary heat exposure.” One possible cause mentioned by a forensic veterinarian was exposure to microwave radiation, though other theories include hot water immersion or exposure to steam, as detailed in a probable cause affidavit.
The situation came to light on December 15, 2024, when a friend informed Broward County Animal Services about Reaper’s suspicious death. Armenti reportedly told authorities that she found her cat dead on the bathroom floor that morning, but when animal control arrived, the cat’s body was moved outside in the backyard.
Upon examining the cat, officers noted that it was “rigid” and in an unusual position, with a noticeable pool of blood beneath it. Berera allegedly claimed he went to bed with Armenti the night prior and discovered the cat’s body the following day, suggesting that Reaper might have accidentally ingested a cleaning product.
However, a forensic autopsy, conducted by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, revealed a much grimmer picture. A licensed veterinarian determined that Reaper suffered severe injuries due to extreme heat. Analysis indicated that the cat did not die instantly and experienced considerable pain before passing away.
Berera’s case was initiated on June 3, 2026, leading to his arrest the following day, while Armenti was also taken into custody later that month. Both individuals are currently held on $25,000 bail, with conditions for electronic monitoring or home confinement. They maintain their innocence, and the case continues to develop.
Brett Berera is Fisher’s oldest child with her former husband, Louis Berera. Notably, Amy Fisher rose to infamy in the early ’90s after shooting Mary Jo Buttafuoco, the wife of her boyfriend. Caught in a wave of media attention, Fisher was sentenced to seven years for the crime. After her release, she eventually transitioned into adult entertainment.
