Farmer’s Almanac Saved from Closure

On Wednesday, the Farmer’s Almanac was acquired by new owners, thus avoiding what could have been a “permanent closure,” according to a press release. The historic publication, which has been around for 208 years, was taken over by Farmer’s Almanac LLC, a company based in New York that focuses on preserving notable publications.

Founded in 1818 by David Young and Jacob Mann, the Farmer’s Almanac has consistently been in production throughout its long history.

According to the release, the urgency for new ownership arose after the announcement that the almanac would halt publication following the 2026 edition due to financial difficulties. Tim Conrad, the founder of media company Unofficial Networks and the new owner, expressed a sense of responsibility, stating, “We felt it was wrong to stand by and watch an irreplaceable part of our national heritage disappear.”

He further commented that the Farmer’s Almanac holds significant value as “a living link to generations of knowledge and curiosity about the natural world.” Conrad mentioned that the team would focus on maintaining the trusted content that has been a staple for readers since 1818, including long-range weather forecasts, gardening advice, and more.

Peter Geiger, the yearbook editor emeritus, shared his relief at the change in ownership. He expressed gratitude for finding a worthy steward in Conrad, adding that he is confident the legacy will continue for future generations.
