A 23-year-old man from Sierra Leone is accused of stabbing a 15-year-old girl and trying to abduct her in Baltimore, Maryland. The Department of Homeland Security says Abubakarr Barrie entered the United States through Arizona in December 2023 and was later released after being arrested by Border Patrol during the Biden administration.
Baltimore police say Barrie stabbed the girl inside a home. DHS says he took her to a basement property he was renting. Investigators allege he stabbed her repeatedly, but she managed to escape.
The incident happened on October 22. Barrie was arrested two days later, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement placed a detainer on him that day. Reports say he had been working as an unlicensed cab driver.
Earlier this year, New York City police arrested Barrie on a charge of possessing a forged instrument. ICE also lodged a detainer at that time, but city officials released him in July.
DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin blamed the case on failures in immigration enforcement and sanctuary-city policies. He urged Baltimore County authorities to honor ICE’s detainer and keep Barrie from harming anyone else.
