Trump Administration’s Alleged Ties to Russia Under Scrutiny

CNN national security analyst Beth Sanner has raised concerns about former President Trump’s administration, suggesting that it supported Russia. This follows the release of a report by Tulsi Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence, which was declassified on Wednesday. The report, prepared by the House Permanent Select Committee, dates back to 2020.

Sanner criticized the administration for making the report public, arguing it contained what she called a “cherry-picked” example that contradicted the intelligence community’s assessments during the time of Russia’s involvement in the 2016 elections, which aimed to favor Trump.

“I’m not thankful for examples like this that just shake cherry blossoms,” she expressed, evidently frustrated. “You can always find that one report that stands out, but… well, you get what I mean.”

The CNN host dismissed the new evidence of alleged Russian interference from the Epstein file as merely a “distraction.”

Sanner contended that by declassifying this 2020 report, the Trump administration essentially “works for our enemy, Russia.”

The report itself disclosed that the intelligence community lacked firm evidence showing that Russian President Vladimir Putin aimed to boost Trump’s chances in the 2016 election. However, it did mention potential biases and questionable intelligence that aligned oddly with the previous Obama administration’s stance.

Furthermore, the report stated that then-CIA director John Brennan had ordered the release of 15 post-election documents that contained previously unpublicized intelligence, three of which were noted as dubious in origin and potentially biased, influencing judgments favoring Clinton.

CNN analysts challenged these results, asserting that the “big message” for Americans is that by bringing this information to light, the Trump administration is, in essence, doing Russia’s bidding.

Gabbard’s remarks, made during a White House press briefing on Wednesday, starkly contrasted Sanner’s assertions. She claimed the Obama administration promoted a “crafted narrative” about Russian interference in the 2016 election.

“There’s a lack of evidence detailing how President Obama and his national security team influenced the creation of an intelligence assessment, which they knew to be false,” Gabbard stated. “They were aware of Russia’s efforts and sold this narrative to the American public as if it were a fact. But it simply wasn’t true.”
