Key Takeout
- Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is scheduled to release its quarterly revenue figures after the market closes on Tuesday.
- Analysts from Visible Alpha are optimistic about chipmakers reporting increased sales, though they are concerned about a potential dip in profits. AMD had cautioned in May about the impact of stricter chip export restrictions.
- Interestingly, AMD indicated last month that these export challenges might be easing, prompting several analysts to boost their stock price forecasts.
Advanced Micro Devices is anticipated to announce its second quarter results following Tuesday’s market close.
According to estimates from Visible Alpha, AMD’s expected second quarter revenue is around $7.43 billion, which would mark a 27% increase from the same period last year. However, the company’s adjusted net income might fall to $796.6 million, or 48 cents per share, down from $1.26 billion, which was 69 cents per share, a year prior. In May, AMD mentioned it would face a quarterly adjustment of up to $800 million tied to tighter chip sales restrictions to China.
Despite this, many analysts on Wall Street seem to have a more positive outlook regarding AMD’s stock. Reports suggest that AMD plans to resume exports of MI308 chips to China after securing necessary approvals from U.S. authorities last month.
Out of the ten analysts currently covering the stock, six have given it a “buy” rating or equivalent, while four have rated it as a “hold.” Their price targets range from $111 to $210. So far this year, AMD’s stock has gained over 45%, nearing $177 by Monday.
Recently, UBS raised its price target for AMD shares from $160 to $210, expressing confidence in the company’s ability to obtain the approvals required to restart sales of MI308 chips to China.
Additionally, Bank of America has upped its price target from $175 to $200, noting that AMD could capture more than 30% of the CPU market in 2023, especially as Intel’s market begins to shrink.
