Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is considering a return to politics as New York City Mayor Eric Adams faces federal charges and calls for his resignation, according to recent reports.
If Cuomo runs for mayor of New York, he is likely to face opposition from labor unions, business groups and established political leaders. According to Politico.
State Senate Finance Committee Chair Liz Krueger told Politico, “If he becomes mayor, there will be a lot of tension between him and the Legislature and the governor, but not doing so would be one of New York City's biggest… I think it will be beneficial.” “If people are looking for who should be the next mayor of New York, look beyond Eric Adams and Andrew Cuomo. There are eight million more people to talk to.”

But Cuomo is not the only candidate who could potentially run for mayor. New York Attorney General Letitia James also has supporters in New York City politics.
Jay Jacobs, chairman of the New York Democratic Party, said of the possibility of Mr. James running for mayor: “I would not consider or suggest that anyone run for mayor.” “I personally like her a lot. This is a what-if. The mayor isn't going anywhere.”
Some have warned that Mr. Cuomo's team is highly organized and could be formidable if he returns to power. Cuomo easily won three gubernatorial elections, but resigned in 2021 amid a sexual harassment scandal. His successor will be Kathy Hochul, who will be elected to a term that expires in 2022.
“This happened to very intelligent, very organized, very strong-willed people,” former Gov. David Paterson said. “In fact, they're most dangerous when they're in charge. There's certainly a fear among people who know him that he could do that.”

“He has some scars from scandal, as we all do,” Patterson said. “There's going to be more pressure on him to be a kinder, gentler Andrew Cuomo.”
Rich Azzopardi, a spokesperson for Cuomo, told Fox News Digital that talk of Cuomo running for mayor is premature.
“This is all premature, but let's call it what it is. Hochul is trying to manipulate the situation to avoid Tish James going against her,” he said. “The business and labor communities expect Mr. Cuomo to run to restore competency and leadership. Mr. Hochul has lost the House of Representatives once before, and is more concerned about his apparent amateurish political maneuvering. , we should focus on rectifying our many lapses.”
He also praised Cuomo's accomplishments during his time in office in a statement to Politico, saying he “put New Yorkers ahead of politics and politicians.”
