Andrew and Tristan Tate Arrested on New Charges
Controversial figure Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan have been arrested in the U.S. upon request from British authorities who have introduced new allegations of sexual abuse against them.
The brothers were taken into custody by federal marshals in Miami over the weekend. They face accusations of abusing women in the U.K. between 2010 and 2017.
On Sunday, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) revealed that Andrew, age 39, now faces seven additional charges including rape, three counts of soliciting human trafficking for sexual exploitation, three counts of assault causing bodily harm, alongside 19 charges concerning indecent images of children and “extreme pornography.”
Tristan, aged 38, has also been hit with fresh charges: additional counts of sexual assault, two counts of rape, and three charges related to soliciting human trafficking for sexual exploitation.
In total, there are 38 new charges added to what was already a list of 21 criminal charges against the Tate brothers. The CPS noted that seven individuals have come forward with allegations.
Prosecutors in Britain are working on extraditing the brothers from the U.S. to address both the original and the new charges.
“We have decided to charge Andrew and Tristan Tate with further offenses, including rape, soliciting and abetting human trafficking for sexual exploitation, and offenses related to indecent images of children,” stated Malcolm McHaffie, Commissioner of the UK CPS Special Crime Unit. “These decisions were based on new evidence received from Bedfordshire Police. The total number of alleged victims in this case has risen to seven,” he added.
He also reminded everyone that criminal proceedings are ongoing and emphasized the importance of keeping discussions around the matter fair and discreet to protect the integrity of the process.
The U.S. Department of Justice confirmed the arrests were conducted following extradition protocols and in alignment with relevant treaties and agreements.
During a court appearance in Miami on Monday, the brothers opposed the extradition request.
“They did nothing wrong. They shouldn’t be extradited for a crime they didn’t commit,” said their attorney, Joe McBride. “It’s rubbish. It’s a stitching job.”
McBride, in a statement made on a show, indicated that the brothers are being held in a small cell as “political prisoners” in the U.S.
“Make no mistake about it: They are being punished for daring to exercise their First Amendment rights,” he contended, alleging that their arrest is connected to their political expressions online.
Andrew Tate is known for his provocative views, often expressing misogynistic sentiments, and has garnered a following in certain online circles for his views on masculinity and wealth.
“I’m going to say right now that I’m a total sexist and I’m a total misogynist… So I say what I want because I’m a realist. And when you’re a realist, you’re a sexist,” he stated during a podcast in 2021.
