Former presidential candidate Andrew Yang has cast doubt on President Biden's chances of defeating Donald Trump again, warning that the president's age is a “huge handicap” for Democrats.
Yang, who ran for the Democratic nomination in the 2020 presidential election, called Biden the “wrong candidate” on “The Brian Kilmeade Show” and accused the far-left establishment of interfering in the primary election. did.
“I think he's the wrong candidate for 2024. I think he'll lose to Donald Trump as dean in the general election.” [Phillips] “I'm claiming that,” Yang told Brian Kilmeade on Monday.
“I think there's a lot of frustration about the fact that the DNC hasn't responded properly here in New Hampshire or North Carolina or Florida, where they've canceled their primaries.”
Democrat Dean Phillips attacks Biden for trying to overturn traditional primary election process
“How can you literally make a speech defending democracy on one hand, and then turn around and suppress democracy on the other?” he continued.
“That's what's going on in this Democratic primary, and Dean Phillips is shouting it and trying to show everyone that people don't want just 80-year-olds fighting.”
New Hampshire officials announced last month that they would not respond to a request from the Democratic National Committee (DNC) to transfer first-state privileges to South Carolina. The president's reelection campaign has not even registered to vote in New Hampshire, which could further complicate the situation there.
Meanwhile, Yang endorsed Biden's challenger Dean Phillips, a moderate Minnesota senator, at an event in Hanover, New Hampshire, last week.
“Someone in New Hampshire asked me, what's the difference between Dean and Joe Biden? I said about 27 years,” Yang said. “It seems like a pretty big chasm… Imagine you have a leader who is 55 years old… strong and can play hockey… you’re not worried about them… going to retail stores and campaigning. Do you have it?”
Why Dean Phillips is scolding Democrats
“These are basic things, but I've run for president before, and I think having an 81-year-old candidate in the fall will be a big handicap,” he continued.
Biden faces ongoing concerns over his age and mental acuity as he battles historically low approval ratings and declining support in key voting blocs across the country as he heads into the 2024 presidential election are doing.
Democrats are concerned about Biden's potential victory over former President Trump, and some key left-wing operatives have suggested he step down to give another candidate a chance to win. ing.
“Dean would come out with a shockingly large number, and the Biden campaign would throw it around and apologize for the fact that Joe Biden got 55% or 58% or whatever. They'd be like, oh, this is going to happen. “That's great,'' Yang said.
“Folks, it's a terrible thing for a sitting Democratic president to make us understand that the threshold should be 81, 84 percent among his fellow New Hampshire voters.”
“If he falls below that, they're like… it doesn't mean anything,” he continued.
“It means so many things.”
