Andy Reid is getting into the Christmas spirit.
After winning the AFC title with a 29-10 victory over the Steelers and earning a first-round bye, the Chiefs coach changed his outfit after the game and wore his sideline costume to convey the good news to the Chiefs players. He changed into a Santa Claus costume.
“Merry Christmas! I'm proud of you, everyone. I'm proud of you,” he said. “Right now, we have home field advantage.”
Reid's entrance was enough to steal the thunder from stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. They outraged everyone by showing off custom sideline jackets inspired by Pere Noel. This was a gift from Netflix for his performance in the win.
On this day, Kelce gave the crowd at Acresure Stadium the unexpected gift of his 1,000th career reception, adding his 77th touchdown with the Chiefs and passing legend Tony Gonzalez as the team's all-time leading receptionist. This made the day even more special for Kelsey.
Kelce dunked the ball over the uprights, an ode to Gonzalez's signature TD celebration, and was given an unsportsmanlike penalty for trouble.
Mahomes finished with 320 yards at receiver and three touchdowns in the win.
He also threw in a little something for his wife, Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Brittany Mahomes.
“I told my wife, who was pregnant, that I was going to get the No. 1 seed and go have the baby,” he said. Said on Netflix broadcast. “So we got one seed.”
Brittany announced in the summer that she was pregnant with a girl.
The new girl will join a growing pedigree that already includes daughter Starling (3 years old) and son Bronze (2 years old).
