Angel City player receives heart surgery update

Angel City FC defender Sabbiking underwent heart surgery following a serious medical incident during a match against Angel City on Friday night.

King was quickly taken to Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after experiencing health issues while playing against the Utah Royals. Doctors found an abnormality in her heart and performed surgery on Tuesday.

In a family statement, they expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from Angel City players, staff, fans, and the football community. They shared that Savy is recovering well and they eagerly await her return home.

Angel City noted that King is on the mend and her prognosis looks promising.

The incident happened 74 minutes into the game, prompting medical staff to attend to King for about ten minutes before she could be moved off the field. The NWSL stated it will reassess its emergency protocols in light of this event.

Despite the setback, Play continued, and Angel City emerged victorious with a 2-0 win, even after a lengthy stoppage that contributed to twelve minutes of added time.

King was the second overall pick in the 2024 NWSL Draft by Bay FC and has played in eighteen games this club season before transferring to Angel City during the offseason.

She has appeared in eight games this current season.
