Another Juror Discloses That the Holdout in Lindsay Clancy's Trial Was a Black Man

A juror from the Lindsay Clancy murder trial shared with CBS Mornings host Gayle King that the lone juror who held out for a conviction was a Black man.

King, who is also Black, asked juror Paula Devlin about the demographics and age range of the jury, which comprised nine women and three men. Devlin pointed out that the group included just one person of color and mentioned that many jurors were parents, with ages spanning from roughly 22 to 70.

When King inquired about the holdout juror’s race, Devlin confirmed he was indeed a Black man. This revelation seemed to take King by surprise, prompting her to pause and process the information.

The discussion progressed with them exploring the evidence that led Devlin to support the argument for Clancy’s not guilty verdict by reason of insanity concerning the alleged murders of her three children. She noted that while she had been inclined to that perspective, the testimonies were compelling. Devlin emphasized that everyone spoke highly of Lindsey, illustrating her love for her children, stating, “Everywhere you looked there was just love.”

She reflected on how Clancy appeared to have lacked adequate support for her postpartum psychosis, insisting that “this wouldn’t have happened if Lindsey didn’t get lost in the system and was failed by it.” Like the other ten jurors, she believed Clancy was not guilty due to insanity.

In contrast, the holdout juror maintained that Clancy had the mental capacity necessary for a conviction, arguing that she had planned the tragic events—such as ensuring her husband was out of the house and researching the timing for her actions—before attempting to take her own life.

In the end, the trial resulted in a mistrial because the jury couldn’t reach a unanimous decision. King expressed her intrigue regarding the holdout juror being a Black man and estimated his age to be in his 30s.
