Charges Upgraded for Suspects with Prior Arrests in Virginia
In Fairfax, Virginia, the prosecutor’s office has escalated charges against some suspects, specifically elevating them to rape and kidnapping after dismissing various other charges. This pattern has caught the attention of a Department of Justice (DOJ) investigation.
Police arrested Juan Carlos Arevalo on Tuesday for an assault committed in Falls Church back in September. Following an extensive investigation, detectives from the sex crimes unit were able to secure an arrest warrant, as reported by local news.
In Fairfax County, Arevalo faced numerous indictments, including kidnapping, intimidation by force, petit larceny, and assault against a family member. However, all these charges have now been dismissed, according to Virginia judicial records.
Arevalo, 46, was involved in a police pursuit in January that was related to a felony kidnapping case. This chase included local police and a Fairfax County helicopter. Eventually, police apprehended him in a wooded area after performing a tactical maneuver to stop the getaway vehicle, as reported at the time.
Interestingly, the charges stemming from both the kidnapping investigation and the ensuing chase were also dismissed.
A local advocacy group, Virginians for Safe Communities, raised concerns recently, questioning how soon Arevalo might be released again, highlighting that he had been repeatedly freed on various charges, including kidnapping.
The county’s federal attorney, Steve Descano, has been characterized as a George Soros-funded prosecutor and is under scrutiny from the DOJ, which is investigating whether his office has shown bias against American citizens in favor of illegal alien defendants by dismissing charges to avoid deportation.
Descano faces criticism from both federal lawmakers and the families of crime victims. At a House Judiciary Committee hearing in May, a mother lamented the county’s policies after her child was murdered by an undocumented criminal. She expressed her frustration that policies designed to protect certain individuals put innocent lives at risk, emphasizing that compassion shouldn’t come at the cost of public safety.
Additionally, another illegal alien, Moises Domingo Rico Rosales, also had charges dismissed by Descano’s office but was arrested recently on charges of attempted kidnapping and indecent assault.
As of now, Descano’s office has not provided any comments regarding these issues.
