Antonio Brown achieves initial legal success in attempted murder case

Antonio Brown Released on Bail Amid Attempted Murder Charge

Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown is currently out on $25,000 bail and is required to wear a GPS ankle monitor following an attempted murder charge in Florida, as ordered by a judge on Wednesday.

The 37-year-old has pleaded not guilty to the charge of attempted second-degree murder, which could potentially result in a 15-year prison sentence and a fine of up to $10,000 if he is convicted.

According to his attorney, Mark Aiglash, Brown will return to his home in Broward County, Florida, while the case unfolds. Prosecutors had sought to keep him in pretrial detention, citing concerns that as a wealthy former athlete, he might flee.

Aiglash reassured the court regarding Brown’s situation, stating, “He no longer has a passport. He will be living at home. I look forward to working diligently with him on this case.” Brown attended the bail hearing via video, wearing a red prison shirt and only spoke to answer the judge’s inquiries.

Details from arrest warrants suggest that Brown allegedly stole a gun from a security guard after a celebrity boxing match in Miami on May 16 and fired two shots at a man involved in a prior altercation. The victim, Zulu Karnaine Kwame Nantambu, reported that one of the bullets grazed his neck.

During the hearing, Aiglash contested aspects of the affidavit, claiming that Brown was using a personal firearm and that the shots were not deliberately aimed at anyone. “It was my client’s own gun,” he stated.

Social media posts reveal that Brown had been residing in Dubai for several months. Following the incident, he claimed he was acting in self-defense against multiple individuals who had attempted to rob him of his jewelry.

Aiglash further indicated that Brown had business interests in Dubai and always intended to return to confront the attempted murder charge. “He did not flee to Dubai. He always had the desire and intention to answer this case,” the lawyer affirmed.

Brown, who played for 12 seasons in the NFL, is an All-Pro wide receiver known for his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers and, more recently, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021. Throughout his career, he achieved 928 receptions, over 12,000 receiving yards, and 88 total touchdowns, including both a punt return and a passing touchdown.
