Ocasio-Cortez Criticizes Trump Amid L.A. Immigration Riots
During a conversation with Fox News Digital, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York expressed strong disapproval of President Donald Trump’s management of ongoing immigration riots in Los Angeles. She attributed the chaos to Trump’s actions, stating that the current situation is a direct result of his administration’s decisions.
She indicated that both Trump and Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller are actively contributing to the unrest, suggesting that their tactics are only exacerbating the issues across the nation. “It’s his choice, his aggressive stance. He has the power to incite this unrest intentionally, and that’s fundamentally the problem,” Ocasio-Cortez remarked.
The city of Los Angeles has recently experienced violent confrontations between anti-ICE protesters and law enforcement, escalating from protests against ICE operations in the area.
In response to the turmoil, President Trump has deployed 2,000 National Guard members alongside numerous Marines to assist local officials in controlling widespread riots.
Ocasio-Cortez, who is recognized as a prominent Democrat and a potential contender for the 2028 presidential race, emphasized the need for accountability regarding what she characterized as deliberately inciting chaos that has led to the unrest in Los Angeles. “Everyone is witnessing this turmoil. We need accountability for the administration that chose to create this situation. The Trump administration is responsible,” she stated.
She further elaborated, “We know that Trump and Miller are willing to conduct aggressive raids on vulnerable populations, including children, which only fuels further social disruption. Trump is orchestrating this confusion deliberately, and ultimately, he must answer for the consequences.”
Ocasio-Cortez also pointed out that punishing individuals not in power for the actions of demonstrators is futile. “I’m not quite sure where all of this is stemming from, and whether it’s the leaders who need to face the real answers,” she mentioned. “We need to hold accountable those who are creating this turmoil.”
In earlier comments this week, she attempted to downplay the severity of the riots on social media, suggesting that Democrats might be falling into traps set by Republicans by justifying the violence occurring in the city.
Overall, the situation remains tense in Los Angeles, with local residents expressing frustration over the persistent anti-ICE demonstrations. Ocasio-Cortez’s statements seem to underscore a larger call for responsibility and an inquiry into the underlying causes of the unrest.
