U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) has called for the impeachment of conservative U.S. Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito.

On Wednesday, AOC’s office filed articles of impeachment against the Supreme Court justices.
To remove an official, the House must vote to impeach and the Senate must vote to convict. Because the House is majority-controlled by Republicans, the procedural aspects have made the ongoing effort “pointless.”
Ocasio-Cortez said in a statement that Thomas and Alito’s “inclination to refuse to recuse themselves from important issues before the Court where their financial and personal entanglements are widely documented is a serious threat to the rule of law in the United States.”
Several Democrats in Congress have also accused both Alito and Thomas of ethics violations.
Activists have criticized Thomas for failing to report travel and lodging he received from wealthy benefactors and over allegations that his wife was involved in efforts to overturn President Trump’s loss in the 2020 presidential election. Thomas has said he doesn’t believe his trips were covered by reporting laws because they were personal entertainment.
Justice Alito also came under fire after it was revealed that President Trump had flown flags outside the justices’ homes in Virginia and New Jersey in an attempt to invalidate the 2020 election. Justice Alito said it was his wife, not him, who had flown the flags.
