AOC shares her views on Platner's numerous scandals — and her opinion is surprising

Graham Platner’s Victory Amid Scandal

On June 9, Graham Platner clinched the Democratic nomination for the Maine State Senate, garnering around 72% of the vote in the upcoming primary against incumbent Republican Senator Susan Collins.

However, his campaign faced significant controversy. Issues emerged, including a chest tattoo resembling a Nazi SS symbol, sexually explicit messages exchanged with other women during his marriage, allegations of emotional instability and excessive drinking from former partners, and resurfaced Reddit posts that many considered to be offensive and inflammatory.

Despite these scandals, Platner managed to secure a win, benefitting from considerable grassroots and progressive backing.

Pat Gray from BlazeTV expressed surprise at the public’s lack of anger regarding these controversies. “None of these scandals have had any impact on his candidacy,” he remarked.

More surprising were the comments from Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D.N.Y.) following Platner’s victory. As a democratic socialist and a fierce critic of Republican scandals, she seemed to overlook his many issues.

She stated, “In terms of the substance of this reporting, obviously, there are a lot of parts of that behavior that are really challenging. It’s hard to bear…but I think at the end of the day, this is a choice.” She continued, emphasizing the importance of the ballot choice between a senator who undermined health care coverage for millions.

Co-host Keith Marinak interpreted her words, saying, “Does he sext women, get Nazi tattoos, and mock people who serve in our military? Yeah, but he’ll vote for a government that spends money on other people’s health insurance.” This led Pat to scoff at her sentiment, remarking, “What a profound statement. Obviously, it was a choice, and you made the wrong choice there.”

Jeffy speculated that the issues surrounding Platner might be even more precarious, citing the progressive activists who had initially scouted him and later admitted to hiring a professional research firm to vet him thoroughly before his candidacy was even launched.

Nonetheless, some findings, including a now-deleted 2021 post where Platner mentioned “getting old and becoming a communist,” have contributed to the ongoing scrutiny.

“It’s despicable,” Pat asserted.
