Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) appeared on CNN's “The Lead” and urged Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer (D-ny) not to vote for the six-month suspension spending bill.
Host Jake Tapper said, “You're urging people to call the senators and order them not to vote for the cloud. What do you say to the rebuttal, as government closures hurt the country and those you represent from Queens and the Bronx?”
Ocasio-Cortez said: And that's why House Democrats came up with plans, with some Senate Democrats planning to keep the government open for another 30 days as Republicans negotiate deals with Democrats. ”
She continued. “This ongoing solution codifies many of this disruption that Elon Musk is wreaking havoc on the federal government. It codifies many of these changes, as it sacrifices Congressional authority, completely eliminates it, and reviews these impulsive Trump tariffs he has switched on and off.”
She added: I think that our strength we have is at this moment a reconciliation. And all of these Republicans don't need a democratic vote for that. They need it for this. And the strength of our leadership in this moment is to demonstrate the strength of our caucus. We can't fully urge how bad it is to allow Donald Trump and Elon Musk at this moment. It's dangerous and reckless. ”
Ocasio-Cortez concluded, “There's time between now and tomorrow, so I hope that individuals considering rethinking it will really do that.”
