Tricia Whitaker, an MLB reporter for Apple TV+, had quite an eventful day during Friday’s Orioles game.
During Baltimore’s 7-4 victory against the Tigers at Camden Yards, she unfortunately got hit on the wrist by a foul ball from Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman.
Later that night, Whitaker shared a video on her Instagram Story showing the training staff taping an ice pack to her arm, which was bruised.
In another video, she showed her left hand and wrist in a plastic bag filled with ice. She humorously captioned it: “Good news: @adleyrutschman has an elite exit velo. Bad news: My wrist absorbed it.”
The next morning, Whitaker posted that she was doing well and expressed gratitude to the medical staff for their help.
“In case anyone was wondering, Adley Rutschman’s exit velocity is still elite. My forearms are proof of that,” she wrote on X. “Instead of reporting 10-day IL, forearm discomfort, find out what the injury update feels like.”
She also mentioned, “P.S. I’m fine, thanks to the Orioles medical staff who kept ice wrapped around my arm throughout the game!”
Joined Apple TV+ as a sideline reporter in 2022, Whitaker has become somewhat of a social media personality, especially during Friday night broadcasts.
Last season, there was a memorable moment when she and Brewers manager Pat Murphy discussed what snacks players enjoy during games.
“Rumor has it that you like to snack during games,” she said, to which Murphy humorously replied by pulling a pancake from his back pocket.
Surprisingly, he offered her a piece of the pancake, and she accepted, eating it live on air.
“Pizza, bagels, what else do you have in your pocket?” Whitaker quipped after trying the pancake.
“Whatever,” was Murphy’s casual reply.
