Archeologists Discover 200-Year-Old Message in a Bottle

An intriguing discovery linking a group of volunteers with archaeologists of the past was made recently on the northern coast of France.

Volunteer archaeologists were excavating a section of a Gaul ruin when they discovered something incredible. Artnet Reported on friday.

They found a 200-year-old message in a small bottle that offered a glimpse into the past. Rolled up inside the bottle was a message that read: “P.J. Ferré, a native of Dieppe and member of various intellectual associations, carried out excavations here in January 1825. He continues to investigate in this vast area known as the City of Limes or Caesar's Camp.”

“These excavations have provided us with a very moving and special testimony – a time capsule that has been excavated for a long time but which was left behind in an area that is now threatened by the retreat of the coastline,” said archaeologist Guillaume Blondel, who works in the nearby city of Eu and led the excavations.

According to an article in ArtNet, coastal erosion is making it more important to excavate a 2,000-year-old site near the Normandy city of Dieppe.

“Pierre-Jacques Ferret was a prominent resident of the area in the 19th century, continuing a tradition of excavation at the site that dates back to the early 18th century. Ferret was the first to produce an accurate topographical map of the site and found evidence that it had been a Gallic fortified town before it was used by the Romans,” the report said.

According to Britannica, archaeology is Defined As “the scientific study of the material remains of past human life and activities.”

In August 2020, Breitbart News reported that a message in a bottle sent by a North Carolina girl ended up in the hands of a fisherman in Morocco, 4,000 miles away.
