Arizona Dem. Gov. Hobbs Vetoes Bill Requiring Police to Cooperate with ICE

Katie Hobbs of the left-wing Arizona Democratic government rejected the bill passed by the state legislature.

The Republican-led Congress has passed a bill that bars local police from working with federal immigration authorities or passing ordinances that would prevent federal immigration lawsuits and funds, the Associated Press reported.

The bill would also require local people to cooperate with immigrant detainees and inform federal officials about immigrants who are in custody or about to be released from prison or prison.

Supporters of the bill said the measures were necessary for the federal government to detain foreign criminals for deportation and support a safer and more orderly system for state officials to “not be a partner and not a disability” in federal immigration policy.

However, Hobbs in a veto statement argued that it was wrong to “force state and local officials to receive a march order from Washington.”
The bill would also require an agreement with the federal government to temporarily detain detainees with the foreign government.

Additionally, the bill requires states to withhold funds from jurisdictions that violate the new law.

Hobbs’ veto is against polls that show voters increasingly leaning towards stricter immigration policies. For example, last year, a poll was conducted. Showed 63% of Arizonans support Proposition 314, a measure that criminalizes entry into the country illegally. Another vote from last year Found The majority of hats felt that the US had lost control of the border under Biden.

And as the dust settled in last year’s election, Arizonan sent more Republicans to the state legislature.

In November, Arizona speaker Steve Montenegro told Breitbart News that Arizonans rejected the agenda for Gov. Hobbs and Democrats by expanding Republican control over the state Capitol.
