A man who stole a semi-truck containing a new $1 million Corvette from an Arizona truck stop told police he only took the truck because he needed to get home after being released from prison, authorities said. announced Thursday.
According to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, Isaiah Walker, 23, of Lawton, Oklahoma, assaulted and robbed a truck driver at Love’s Truck Stop in Wilcox near Interstate 10.
The sheriff’s office said Walker told the victim about the truck’s load and “gave reassurance” before grabbing the victim and throwing him out of the cab.
Walker allegedly fled the scene in a semi that was transporting 10 Chevrolet C8 Corvettes with an estimated value of more than $1.25 million.

Police said an officer spotted the stolen truck and tried to pull it over, but the driver refused to stop. The driver speeded recklessly, forcing other vehicles to leave the roadway.
The stolen truck eventually stopped and Walker was taken into custody.

“Walker admitted stealing the vehicle and advised that the Corvette was not the cause and that he had just been released from jail and needed a truck to get home,” the sheriff’s office said.

Walker was booked into the Cochise County Jail on multiple felonies, including robbery, 11 counts of theft of transportation, and felony theft.
Meanwhile, Wilcox Police Chief Dale Hadfield said the semi-truck was recovered without damage and the original driver was released to continue making deliveries.

“Deputies and officers showed great restraint and perseverance in resolving a serious crime peacefully while ensuring that no one else’s property was harmed,” the chief said.
