Arizona Police Association endorses Trump, then snubs GOP Senate nominee to support Dem opponent

The Arizona State Police Association announced its support for Republican presidential candidate and former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Glendale, Arizona, on Friday. But just days later, the union turned its back on Trump-backed Republican Senate candidate Kali Lake and endorsed her Democratic opponent.

The APA previously endorsed Lake in the 2022 gubernatorial race, but on Monday declared it would support Democratic senatorial candidate Ruben Gallego in the upcoming 2024 election.

“APA does not take our endorsement lightly. We recognize the importance of having a United States Senator who can unite people for the betterment of society as a whole. We believe Rep. Gallego will be that kind of United States Senator,” Harris added.

In response to the union's endorsement, Gallego said, “I am proud to have the support of the Arizona State Police Association, and I look forward to working with them in the Senate to ensure Arizona law enforcement officers have the resources they need to combat fentanyl trafficking, train the next generation of officers, and most importantly, keep Arizona families safe.”
