Arizona Republican gubernatorial candidate withdraws but refrains from endorsing anyone

Karyn Taylor Robson has decided to withdraw from Arizona’s Republican gubernatorial primary, even though she was among the two candidates supported by former President Donald Trump.

In her announcement, Robson mentioned, “After deep reflection, prayer, and conversations with my family, I have chosen to end my campaign for governor.” Apparently, she wants to avoid adding to the already contentious primary within her party.

“We cannot allow a divisive Republican primary that drains resources and leads to lengthy intraparty conflicts. This could weaken our conservative goals and exactly play into the left’s hands: a fractured Republican Party as we head toward November. There’s a lot at stake in 2026, and I can’t be part of that scenario,” she stated.

Interestingly, Robson hasn’t shown support for any of the candidates remaining in the race.

“I remain dedicated to helping Republicans win in 2026 and ensuring that Arizona stays strong, safe, and free,” she emphasized.

Trump had previously indicated his support for her in the upcoming 2024 governor’s race, saying, “Are you going to run for governor? I think so, Karin, and if you do, you’ll have my support.”

Meanwhile, on another note, Representative Andy Biggs began his own campaign for governor in January 2025; Robson followed suit in February 2025. In a rather surprising move, Trump later announced his endorsement for both candidates.

“I really like Karyn Taylor Robson of Arizona. She came to me for support when no one else was running, and I was glad to assist her. Then Andy Biggs entered the race unexpectedly, and we found ourselves with two outstanding candidates. So, I’m honored to support both fully. Let’s Make America Great Again!” Trump wrote in April 2025.

In 2022, Robson lost the Republican primary to Kari Lake, who subsequently lost the general election to Democrat Katie Hobbs.

Looking ahead, Hobbs is pursuing re-election this year, while Representative David Schweikert is also in the running among Republicans for the governor position in Arizona.
