Arkansas police confirm 4th victim died in grocery store shooting

A fourth victim injured in a shooting outside an Arkansas grocery store on Friday has died, police announced Saturday night.

Arkansas State Police say 14 people were injured in a shooting outside the Mad Butcher grocery store. Fordyce, ArkansasAmong them were 11 civilians, two police officers and the suspect, Travis Eugene Posey, 44, according to a police press release.

The shooting happened just after 11:30 a.m. Friday.

The victims, all civilians, were identified as Shirley Taylor, 62; Carrie Weems, 23; Roy Sturgis, 50; and Ellen Schramm, 81.

Seven civilians injured in the shooting — five women and two men — survived, police said. Four of the victims remain hospitalized, one in critical condition. Three of the injured civilians were released from the hospital on Friday.

Fordyce Police Officer James Johnson, 31, was shot and released from the hospital Saturday evening. Stuttgart Police Officer John Hudson, 24, suffered minor injuries.

Police said Posey will be charged with four counts of murder, with additional charges still pending.

The suspect was treated for non-life-threatening injuries after the shootout with police, released into state police custody and transported to the Ouachita County Detention Center.

The shooting remains under investigation.
