Army Reverting Transgender Soldiers’ Records to Original Gender

According to reports, the US military has revised its records for transgender soldiers to reflect their biological sex after deciding that gender is “unchanging throughout a person’s life.” An internal memo has been released, instructing military personnel to update records and management systems accordingly.

Additionally, the military is changing how pronouns are used, insisting that they align with each person’s biological sex rather than their “preferred” gender. This shift extends to designations for personal or “intimate” spaces, which will now be designated solely for biological males or females, with a third area marked for “family use.”

Current estimates suggest there are around 4,240 transgender service members active in the military or in the National Guard.

These developments follow a ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court involving the Trump administration’s recent decision to exclude transgender individuals from military service. The court issued an order permitting the administration to implement this policy while a lawsuit progresses.

A Supreme Court judge granted an urgent request from the Trump administration, allowing a nationwide injunction that blocks a previous policy. The court has lifted a temporary injunction, although the lawsuit can still move forward. The order specified that the application for a stay presented to Judge Kagan and her wording to the court enabled this outcome.

Furthermore, this action is part of earlier efforts led by Defense Secretary Pete Hegses to halt all access to gender-affirming treatment for transgender recruits, a decision primarily influenced by military considerations in light of political correctness during the current administration.

A note dated February 7, 2025, emphasizes that such efforts to differentiate the military based on identity could weaken its strength, asserting that all service members, regardless of gender discomfort, should still be treated with “dignity and respect.”
