Army Reverting Transgender Soldiers’ Records to Original Gender

Reuters has reported that the U.S. military is altering records of transgender service members to reflect their biological sex, stating that an individual’s gender remains constant throughout life.

The internal memo indicates directives to “update personnel records and management systems to align with the biological sex of all individuals.”

In addition, the military is reviewing its approach to pronouns, indicating that they should correspond with a person’s biological sex rather than their “preferred” gender. This also affects the categorization of personal or “intimate” spaces, which are designated for biological males and females, with a third space marked for “family use.”

According to estimates, there are approximately 4,240 active and National Guard transgender service members.

This change follows a recent ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court, which supported the Trump administration’s decision to exclude transgender individuals from military service.

As noted by Breitbart News:

A Supreme Court judge granted an urgent request from the Trump administration to “release a nationwide injunction blocking policy.” NBC News reported that the court intends to lift the temporary injunction, allowing the lawsuit to proceed while the policy may remain in effect.

The court’s order stated, “It is permitted by the application for stay presented to Judge Kagan and the introduction she has to the court,” referring to an interim injunction made by the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington.

This shift also follows earlier actions from Defense Secretary Pete Hegses, who paused all access and gender “positive” treatment for transgender recruits, particularly in light of military readiness during the Biden administration.

The note from February 7, 2025, underscored that “efforts to divide the army along the lines of identity weaken our strength and make us vulnerable,” while still noting that service members experiencing gender discomfort deserve to be treated with “dignity and respect.”
