Army Secretary Dan Driscoll Emphasizes Achieving Recruitment Goals

U.S. Army Exceeds 2026 Recruiting Target Ahead of Schedule

U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll recently emphasized the Army’s success in meeting its 2026 recruiting goal in just “about eight and a half months” this year.

During a discussion with Breitbart News Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlowe at the Pennsylvania Defense and Innovation Summit, Driscoll attributed this achievement to the efforts of Secretary of the Army Pete Hegseth and President Donald Trump’s commitment to “lethality and excellence.”

“We welcomed 61,500 new recruits into the U.S. military, reaching that number earlier this year,” Driscoll mentioned. He highlighted that this milestone is, in large part, due to Hegseth’s and Trump’s dedication to improving Army standards.

As Driscoll continued, he noted that many young recruits are inspired to join because of the challenges and the Army’s long-standing legacy of excellence, which spans over 250 years. “They are eager to serve their country, and the current administration has made that possible for them,” he added.

When asked by Marlowe how to boost recruitment numbers and what makes it attractive, Driscoll explained that the Army is employing “customer relationship management tools” to connect more effectively with potential recruits. The focus is also on sharing the Army’s narrative more effectively.

“We’ve made some technical improvements to our recruiting methods. For instance, we started using Salesforce—a tool that helps us keep track and engage more effectively with recruits,” he said. “However, that’s just a part of it. Our main goal is to present the different ways people can serve their country. Whether someone wants to be a Cyber Warrior or an Army Ranger, there’s a place for them in the U.S. Army.”

Driscoll reaffirmed that the military is “not lowering its standards.” In a press release from May, the military confirmed, “We have achieved our fiscal year 2026 active duty soldier recruitment goals and contracted over 61,500 future soldiers.”
