Arnold Schwarzenegger Responds to Immigration Crackdown
Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Hollywood actor and former governor of California, recently addressed questions regarding the arrests of numerous undocumented immigrants in the Los Angeles area.
During an interview with Behar, Schwarzenegger avoided giving a direct opinion on the situation but spoke about his own experience as an immigrant from Austria. He noted how grateful he is to have been accepted in America, emphasizing that his success here is something he couldn’t have achieved elsewhere.
“As an immigrant, I’m incredibly proud to have been embraced by Americans,” Schwarzenegger remarked. Reflecting on his past, he stated, “When I came here at 21, I had nothing. I was just trying to build a career. This is a land of opportunity, whether in bodybuilding, acting, or even becoming a governor. I’d not have had this chance anywhere else.”
Schwarzenegger went on to discuss the importance of legal immigration, suggesting that newcomers should act responsibly and with respect for the laws of the land. “It’s crucial to enter the country legally,” he said. “If you’re a guest, you need to behave like one. Think about it — when I’m at someone’s home, I keep things tidy and make sure I’m respectful. Breaking the rules isn’t being a good guest.”
The recent crackdown on illegal immigration has resulted in hundreds of arrests in early June, initiated under President Trump’s enforcement policies. Reports indicated that among those apprehended were individuals convicted of severe crimes, including murder and drug offenses.
In response to heightened tensions, riots broke out, leading to violence, vehicle fires, and assaults on law enforcement. The situation escalated, prompting the deployment of over 2,000 National Guard troops and approximately 700 Marines to help restore order.
As disturbances continued, officers utilized tear gas and flash bangs to manage rioters and protesters. One notable incident involved a deported Mexican national facing serious charges related to violent actions against an ICE agent.
