Colorado Mayor’s Cancer Announcement

The mayor of Arvada, Colorado, shared the difficult news of her breast cancer diagnosis and committed to fighting the illness. Loren Simpson, who is affiliated with the Democratic party, made this announcement during a City Council meeting on Tuesday.

“There’s one last thing I need to address,” she said. “It pains me to share this with you all, but I was diagnosed with breast cancer during the holidays.”

Simpson reassured the community that she feels optimistic, noting that the disease was caught early and hadn’t advanced beyond stage one.

At 42, Simpson, who took office in 2023, is scheduled for surgery on Monday and plans to temporarily pass the mayorship to Randy Moorman, the Mayor Pro Tem.

“I have complete faith that this city will keep moving forward,” she expressed. “This team is exceptional, and I trust them wholeheartedly to handle everything.”

The determined first-time mayor, a mother of one, shared her resolve to recover swiftly and return to her duties at City Hall.

She added, “In politics, we often talk about choosing our battles, but sometimes they come to us. Whomever picked me for this challenge, I’m ready to fight and will be back here soon.”

Ms. Simpson, a former city council member, mentioned that she has received overwhelming support from everyone who knows about her diagnosis.

“What I want to stress is, everyone, please get tested. It’s crucial. Visit your doctor. I’m going to conquer this cancer, and I look forward to seeing all of you again in April,” she concluded.
