As Democrats Struggle With Antisemitism Issue, Media Aims To Make Terrorist-Supporting Extremist The Face Of The Party

A recent Sunday piece in the New York Times profiles Hasan Piker, a prominent internet figure known for his left-leaning content. He has stirred controversy with comments suggesting America deserved 9/11 and has expressed admiration for groups like the Houthis and Hezbollah.

The NYT profile dives into aspects of his life, from his workout habits to his fashion sense, while only briefly addressing his remarks on 9/11 and accusations of anti-Semitism. At one point, the article mentions that Piker’s good looks, including his height of 6 feet 4 inches, contribute to his appeal.

Notably, the profile acknowledges that Piker is often criticized as “anti-American” from various political corners, particularly due to his controversial comments about the September 11 attacks.

His views on Israel have also sparked division within the left. A recent discussion featuring Sam Seder and left-leaning content creator Ethan Klein revealed the polarized opinions surrounding Piker.

Klein confronted Seder, equating Piker with Zionist neo-Nazis, suggesting that extreme views—regardless of their source—should be treated equally. However, Seder dismissed Piker’s statements as hyperbolic, even when Piker insisted he was serious.

Piker recently interviewed Rashid Al-Haddad, a Yemeni influencer, who gained attention on social media after posting about a commercial vessel taken over by Houthi pirates. The U.S. government labels the Houthis as terrorists and they’ve reportedly attacked commercial ships numerous times since 2023.

Piker previously compared the Houthis to protagonists in his favorite anime, adding a surreal touch to the conversation. It seems that the NYT isn’t the only outlet focusing on Piker’s fitness routine; other platforms have also delved into his content without addressing any criticisms.

While Piker claims to oppose anti-Semitism, he highlights the complexity of distinguishing it from anti-Zionism, pointing out that merging the two can be perilous—a point that not everyone agrees with.

Representative Richie Torres has taken action by urging Amazon, which owns Twitch, to address Piker’s remarks. He’s labeled Piker a significant figure in spreading anti-Semitic sentiments, citing derogatory comments about orthodox Jews and his reaction to allegations of violence associated with Hamas.

Torres contended that Piker has mostly portrayed himself as an apologist for violence, stating that he believes the nature of events doesn’t alter his views. Meanwhile, Piker has tried to clarify that his criticisms target the Israeli government and not Jewish people in general.

Piker, who has connections to the Young Turks through his uncle Cenk Uygur, has gained traction in leftist circles, even collaborating with notable politicians like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

The Daily Caller reached out to Piker for his comments but hasn’t yet received a response.
