Thirty-four of the 96 potential jurors remain the first choice in the jury selection process for President Donald Trump’s criminal trial, court journalists reported Monday.
“The rapid disqualification of at least 50 potential jurors highlights the difficult reality of finding 12 New Yorkers to serve on a jury in one of the most high-profile cases in U.S. history. ” Axios said. report:
- “I just couldn’t do it,” one prospective juror said in the hallway outside the courtroom, according to Poolside.
- Of the jurors who said they could not be impartial or impartial in the case, more than 20 were white women, one was a Hispanic woman, and four were women of Asian descent. 14 were white men and one was an Asian man. The other six jurors were unknown.
The judge reportedly excused at least nine jurors after finding them unable to serve, leaving 34 jurors remaining.
The 34 potential jurors will move on to the next stage, filling out a questionnaire asking about their media consumption, where they live and whether they are politically active.
After the questionnaire, lawyers from both sides will vet the candidates. Lawyers could look at jurors’ social media and ask more personal questions to screen for bias.

Trump’s unprecedented trial began Monday morning with jury selection, the first day of what could be two weeks of proceedings. The trial could last until June.
Democratic Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg charged Trump with 34 felonies for falsifying documents to cover up the sex scandal. This trial will be the president’s first criminal trial. If Trump is convicted, he could face prison time.
President Trump announced Monday that New York State Supreme Court Justice Juan Marchan will block him from campaigning, appearing before the Supreme Court and celebrating his son’s graduation.
