AT&T users can get up to $7,500 from $17 million data breach settlement: Here's how to claim it

AT&T Settlement Offers Up to $7,500 to Customers

Both former and current customers of AT&T may be entitled to receive as much as $7,500 from a recent settlement linked to two significant data breaches.

This telecommunications company proposed a settlement amounting to $177 million earlier this month, which includes $149 million from the first case and an additional $28 million from the second case.

The first data breach, disclosed in March 2024, impacted around 73 million account holders, both past and present. Personal information such as social security numbers and dates of birth was stolen and subsequently circulated on the dark web.

The second breach, which came to light in July 2024, compromised nearly all phone and text records of AT&T customers, with the information being accessed externally by hackers.

The $177 million settlement is pending approval, with a final hearing slated for December 3rd in the Northern District of Texas.

Checking Your Eligibility

If you’re a current or former AT&T customer, you can apply for compensation before the December hearing if your data may have been affected. Notifications about eligibility will be sent via email from attsettlement@e.emailksa.com, managed by Kroll Settlement Administration.

For customers uncertain about their eligibility, there’s a helpline at (833) 890-4930 for assistance.

Claiming Your Payment

To receive compensation, you need to complete a billing form, which can be found at Telecomdatasettlement.com by November 18th. However, by opting to file a claim, you may forfeit your right to pursue legal action against AT&T.

Expected Compensation Amounts

If you are impacted by the March breach, you could claim up to $5,000, covering losses experienced after 2019. Those affected by the July breach might receive a maximum of $2,500 for losses incurred starting April 14, 2024. If both breaches affected you, there’s potential for a payout of up to $7,500 as part of the overlap payment class.

To process a claim, AT&T requires documentation of losses that can be clearly tied to the breaches.

Payment Timeline

Payments may not be issued until late this year at the earliest, and could be delayed if there’s an appeal following the December 3rd hearing. According to the settlement website, the processing of claim forms will also take some time.
