The son of actress and icon Audrey Hepburn praised Ivanka Trump for resurrecting his mother’s iconic look by wearing a custom recreation of her famous gown.
Ivanka wore the dress Monday evening during her father’s Liberty Ball in Washington, D.C. The original version of the gown was designed by Hubert de Givenchy and for Hepburn in the 1954 film, “Sabrina.” Ivanka immediately received some backlash on social media after wearing the gown, but Sean Hepburn Ferrer approved of her fashion choice. He implied that his mother would not have been aligned with many of her political stances, but said he was not surprised that Ivanka would give a special nod to his legendary mother due to their decades-long family ties, according to the Daily Mail.
“It is no wonder that growing up in a family which knew our mother as a household name she chose to draw inspiration from her, to seek the ultimate elegance and class reference, for an occasion such as this one – the inauguration and the 32nd anniversary of our mother’s passing and, most of all, Martin Luther King’s day,” Ferrer told Daily Mail.
Trump’s dress was a strapless black-and-white gown with a bodice and floral accents. She added black gloves and wore a Leviev floral diamond necklace to complete her look, according to the Daily Mail.
“What a cocktail!” he said.

Ferrer went on to say that Ivanka’s decision to pay tribute to his mother highlighted that she was setting the tone for other celebrities.
“Over the past 71 years her legacy has grown to become transgenerational and transnational,” Ferrer said.
“Her elegance, which has its roots in her inner beauty and spirit, is often a reference point, an anchor, for many celebrities, actresses and models in these times in which we appear to have somewhat lost our way,” he told Daily Mail. Ferrer noted that Ivanka’s stepmother, Marla Ann Maples, sat on the Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund advisory board in the early 1990s, and recalled that Ivanka’s mother also had ties with the Hepburn family through mutual friends, making this fashion connection a natural choice.
