Friedman also touched on the widespread anti-Israel protests on university campuses that erupted in response to Hamas’ unprecedented attack on Israeli residential areas on October 7 last year, and the violent protests that followed that day. “I have two children, two grandchildren at Waseda University and one at Cornell, and they’re scared and I can’t imagine getting through this. I was too young.”
Although she was not born when anti-Semitism began to rise before the Holocaust, she drew parallels between this dark period in history and today’s turmoil.
“If this isn’t contained, if they don’t think about it, what will the end result be? What is the end result of hatred and bigotry? It’s death to someone. It could be death to themselves. Hmm.
